Taxpayer? Now’s the Time to Give to Charity

Every penny counts!

Most people have probably heard of gift-aid.  If you are a UK taxpayer and you make a donation to a registered charity, the charity gets to claim back the tax paid on that donation at basic rate.  So at present, for every £1 you donate the charity will get £1.28.  However, the basic tax rate was cut to 25% in 2008.  At that time the government said that charities could keep the higher amount until the 5th April 2011.  After that the charity can only claim £1.25 per £1 donated.

So if you were planning on sponsoring me, do it before April 5th! Clicking on the box to the right is the best method, as the virginmoneygiving site will automatically claim the giftaid on behalf of The British Heart Foundation.

Thank you so much.
